Review and Live blogging my read of Taleo’s Career Site 2.0 White Paper, ‘Taking the Lead in the War for Talent’

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

I just finished reading Taleo’s White Paper and live blogged it here on Job|SearchMarketing.

It was very well done. I strongly agree with its stated case, ‘With Web 2.0 functionality and best practices implemented on the career website, an organization may achieve a competitive edge in recruiting the most qualified candidate quickly, and gain financial benefits from direct cost reductions as well as opportunity cost savings and value creation due to faster recruiting process that captures higher quality candidates.’

However, it lack substance when it comes to discussing such best practices, and web 2.0 functionality and integrations. The meat of it seems more to be a rather disingenuous pitch to position ’smart’  and presumably new Taleo functionality as ‘2.0,’ and benefit from the buzz around the topic.

Onto my live blogging of the read…

At start, given the use of the term, ‘Career Site 2.0′ I’m expecting this to strongly focus on the use of social media on corporate career sites and the integration of popular social networks into such sites.

Stated focuses of the report are: next gen corporate career sites, candidate experience, opportunities to implement web 2.0 features, understanding and measuring the value of implementing a rich candidate experience.

It’s hard to communicate that, it will be valuable to me if they do it well.

Recruiting Roadshow Logo Challenge – Win $100

Monday, January 28th, 2008

Recruitingroadshowlogo20 Here’s the deal. I’m offering $100 cash to the person who comes up with a better Recruiting Roadshow logo.

The Recruiting Roadshow got off to a great start in 2007. If you are not already familiar with the roadshow you can learn more about it here.

It was patched together and kick-started by John Sumser and Amitai Givertz. Today it’s a living and breathing value-add to local recruiters and sponsors. I have participated in the roadshow and have watched it develop over the past year via blog postings and flickr.

Ths aere are about 11 planed roadshows for 2008. Sponsorre chomping at the bit. It’s really gaining traction…but the damn logo is terrible.

So…in the spirit of the roadshow…I am going to contribute. I’m sponsoring The Recruiting Roadshow Logo Challenge. Winner wins $100 cash.

Rules: Your logo must be original work and you must be willing to give the rights of that work to the recruiting roadshow or the creative commons (however that works). The logo must be accepted by John Sumser and used as the official Recruiting Roadshow logo.

Best practice for participating:

  • Understand the roadshow, its purpose, who’s involved etc.
  • Incorporate aspects of the roadshow in the logo, ie: local, recruiting, community, talent, traveling, sharing, collaborating, education, teaching, learning, transparency etc.
  • Post your version of the logo on your blog or send it to me and I’ll post it.
  • Link to this post.
  • If you are using Photoshop, include the PSD file in your post so that someone else can take your design and run with it.
  • Explain your design

Challenge ends in two weeks, 2/11.

Here’s my design and its PSD.

It’s a right turning road to symbolize the right direction that the roadshow is taking. The road and its reflection sort of doubles as a person (head and shoulders). Think you can make it better? Go ahead.
