Techcrunch is reporting on Jobster today.
Summary:
- Jobster will generate revenue by selling advertising rather than listings.
- Job listings will be free.
- Starting in the Spring, Jobster will be the exclusive job listing provider to Facebook.
If this means that our space now has, in Jason Goldberg, another voice injecting our customers with some Recruitment Advertising knowledge and awareness then I def. am all for it.
I’m looking forward to hearing terms such as, ‘behavioral targeting’, ‘CPM,’ & ‘pageviews,’ ‘cost-per-click,’ bounced off the walls of SHRM like ‘web 2.0′ did the recruit-o-sphere when JG was actively presenting Jobster.
What remains to be seen is whether Jobster will focus more on selling Recruitment Advertising (i.e.. ‘coke is a great place to work.’) or Consumer Advertising (i.e.. ‘drink coke.’)
In many cases Consumer Advertising is a much easier sell as the buyers have a much greater understanding of the value and products than do Recruiters and HR Departments.
Either way, it’s more exciting news coming out of our space, another testament to the value of display advertising and search marketing and social media in the recruitment space. Good luck to Jobster.
p.s. I don’t know if Indeed was actively pursuing this partnership. I imagine it was. I think that Indeed would have complemented Facebook better and landing the Facebook partnership would have positioned Indeed better against Simply|Hired given their integration in Myspace.

“buyers have a much greater understanding of the value and products than do Recruiters and HR Departments.”
..and this is precisely why some recruiters are a cut above others. Recruiters that can leverage the technology and advances to their use, will rise head and shoulders above “traditional” recruitment/HR methods.
