Jobs in Pods breaks egg on my face.

Jobsinpodslogo51Chris Russell, the niche job board entrepreneur responsible for AllCountyJobs.com and JobBoarders.com, is full steam ahead with his Jobs in Pods venture. Thats not news.

What is news is the traction Jobs in Pods is getting and the talent opportunity that exists in podcast recruitment advertising. Chris is on to something and I have to admit that when I first heard of Jobs in Pods I thought it was a stretch. However, after learning more about podcast advertising and Jobs in Pods in particular, I've bought into the idea.

These podcasts are interviews with employers. Job seekers subscribe and hear, directly from the sponsoring employer, answers to questions like...what is it like to work there? What are the benefits like? What is an ideal candidate?

You can read more about these podcasts here. Or listen to Red Robin's podcast here.

At first I didn’t think employers would pay for the service. I was wrong.
Jobs In Pods stakes claim to clients like: Verizon, At&t, Walgreens and more. A Jobs in Pods sponsorships cost about the same as a single job posting on any major job board. That’s making it pretty easy for early adopters to test it out.

I didn't see any reason why the podcast audience would be a qualified one. It is.
This morning on my train in to work from Jersey I read the lead in to eMarketer's podcast advertising report and was pretty impressed with the quality of audience available in the medium.

According to the report, the podcast audience is not just young kids. There’s a broad audience of experienced and educated people and that segment is growing faster than any other.

Between February-April 2006 and August 2006 the percentage of podcast users making over $75k/yr. near doubled from 7% to 13%.

Podcastrecruitmentadverti_3Podcast’s qualified and growing audience coupled with a lack of competing employers using the medium to build employment brand awareness and favorability  represents a a talent opportunity.

So, it looks like the niche recruitment serial entrepreneur is once again on to something worth looking into.

Looking forward
I don't know how Russell plans to grow the biz but I think he should consider venturing into the ad brokering business. If enough demand is there, he should hire someone to produce and execute the podcasts and and broker deals for employers to sponsor podcasts on other podcasts relative to their recruiting objectives. For instance, At&t may be looking for passive sales talent, Job in Pods should broker a deal for At&t with a tip podcast like Salesopedia.

This way Jobs in Pods can provide employers with both active and passive podcast recruitment advertising solutions.

I guess we'll know that Chris plans to take his biz down that path when we hear his own podcast trumpeting free coffee and laundry service for employees of the Connecticut based Jobs in Pods.
