Jobster Layoffs. Let’s quit CEO bashing and get these people back to work.

I’ve steered clear of the whole Jobster Layoffs conversation because so much of it has been attributed by anonymous people seemingly more interested in bashing a very public CEO than in having a productive discussion.

But the fact remains, these 60+ ex-Jobster employees are now out of work. So let’s help them out.

I invite each ex-Jobster employee to share my network by connecting to me on LinkedIn. I ask that you readers offer the same invitation to these people. I’m sure that our combined networks will have much to offer this group.

If you are an ex-Jobster employee, I also invite you to upload your resume to Yahoo! Hotjobs. With such a public layoff, I am sure that people have already begun to search on the keyword, ‘jobster.’ Be sure to send me an email also. I'll share your resume and contact info with the many recruiters that I speak with daily.

Good call Matt, and for all companies looking for quality Jobster candidates, go straight to the source by speaking with Dave Lefkow @ Jobster, here's his "Need Talent?" blog post with contact info - http://jobster.blogs.com/lefkow/2007/01/need_talent.html

Happy to help Dana.

Wow. You guys are quick. Amitai, I think we should rename, 'The Chad' to 'The Resource.' This guy's on top of everything!

So Jobster.com whacks 60 people and we have to hold a fundraiser and grief counseling for the employees? (how many people were fired by Kenexa after taking over Brass Ring? What about VE/ ADP? Unicrew/Kronos?) The PR, good or bad, generated by the discussion of the ceo's blog not only prepared the severed employee's to start looking, but has put a spotlight on all whacked personel so that they will most likely contacted about many job offers. You should reach out to ex employees at the above firms as well and see if they were treated so generously......

Rick, I don’t understand what you’re trying to say.

I think what you are doing is outstanding. I can see what Rick is saying... here are my thoughts:

1. Jobster has been known for blogging and transparency, and has developed relationships with other bloggers that are now paying off in a big way for these 60 laid off folks. I haven't seen a blog from BrassRing or the others (I also haven't looked). Great example of networking.

2. The folks laid off from Jobster are comfortable and into this kind of technology, so this fits right into what they should be doing. I wonder how many people from these other companies would be comfortable posting as much as these guys (linkedIn profiles, other profiles, etc.) Most non-web2.0-savvy folks would look at this and cringe (privacy issues) or not know how to react (nettiquitte (sp)).

3. Regardless, there's no time like the present to do something like this - its excellent and I hope we see more of this type of community involvement as the idea of layoffs is only going to get bigger and bigger.

For all those that have lost there jobs please let me know what us folks at JibberJobber.com can do for you... and if you want to connect on LinkedIn just ask.

Thanks for participating Rick and thanks for your insight. Great points. All of them.

Just to clarify, JibberJobber_Guy (that's me) is Jason Alba - Rick is the guy that did the post where you replied "I don't understand what you are trying to say."

:)

Right. My fault. Thanks Jason. Thanks for reading and thanks for participating. Great input.

Matt. Been traveling, so I am just catching up on my blog reading. Jason Alba summed up my thoughts nicely in his follow up comments. To that point, I heard that VURV fired 20 people from the firm this morning, including the VP of Biz Dev, Product Managerment for the On Demand SMB Solution and the Director of Global Biz Dev. So again, let's ask the question, how were these terminations executed? I think the Jobster terminations still have access to their email. Vurv may have shocked these people with a termination? Is Derek helping these people to find job like Jason is doing up at Jobster? Will everyone else start to leave VURV like the brain drain we have seen at Brass Ring? All serial networkers should extend an invite to the VURV crowd as you have done to the Jobster crowd. It will be interesting to see if this layoff receives the dust up attention that the Jobster layoff got.

Hi Rick,
I agree. All networkers should extend invitations to these people as well though I don't expect to see much press.

I looks like some people are Time, Inc are in trouble as well.

http://www.nypost.com/seven/01182007/business/time_inc_s_bloody_thursday_targets_250_business_keith_j__kelly.htm

My friend worked at vurv, Derrick Mercer and his staff layed off over 70 people, not 20, including consultants and development staff. It wasn't pretty from what I hear. Why did'nt they help ex-vurv staff network network with customers with installs that might be able to employ them. Rumor is, many of the remaining consultants and developers are looking for alternatives, brain drain has already started. It is a good time for us recruiters to scoop up this talent. Extend invites out for these fired vurv employees. Sounds like vurv is having HR problems when the vurv slogan claims 'it's all about the people'...ironic.

thanks alot hope to get me good oppurtunities

Jobster is hopeless.
